Visa needed?

Before leaving for Belgium, you should go through certain formalities. Depending on your country of origin, some may not be necessary.

  1. You must have a valid passport issued by your country of origin (for citizens of some countries, an identity card will suffice).
  2. You must have a visa if you need one to enter Belgium. You can get one from the Belgian embassy or consulate responsible for your place of residence. 
  3. In some cases, you must also have the permits required for working in Belgium. You will need different permits (info depending on whether you wish to acquire self-employed status or employee status.

To & from the airport

  • Train [Webmaster preference]: Up to 4 trains an hour connect the airport to Brussels North, Brussels Central and Brussels Midi stations (20 min. journey).
  • Bus De Lijn: operates express bus services to railway station Brussels North (line 471), NATO (line 471). 
  • Bus MIVB/STIB: The Airport Line is an 30-minute express service between Brussels Airport and the European quarter.
  • Hotel shuttles: Most hotels in the vicinity of the airport provide free shuttle buses.
  • Taxi: Taxis with a taximeter are permanently available in front of the arrivals hall. The fare from the airport to the city centre of Brussels is normally around € 45.

Getting to Belgium by airplane - Charleroi airport (Brussels South)

Charleroi airport (Brussels South) is the main Belgian Regional airport (60 km from Brussels city centre) with 5 companies operating to Europe and North Africa.

To & from the airport

  • Train -  Bus (1h15 journey -55 min Train, 20 min bus- about € 13,5 ): 2 trains an hour connect the Charleroi Sud Station to Brussels Midi, Brussels Central and Brussels North stations. Ask for the "code 814 - O/W fare or code 815 return fare" at your local train station. On arrival at Charleroi railway station, you simply take the direct TEC bus (bus A) which will bring you to the airport terminal. The price of the ticket includes the train and the bus transfer.
  • Coaches (1 hour journey, about € 13) [Webmaster preference]: Every 30 minutes a shuttle coach leaves the airport to take you to the main Brussels railway station (Brussels Midi). Follow the blue arrow on the floor!
  • Taxi: Taxis with a taximeter are always available in front of the arrivals hall.
